10 FREE Holiday Activities in and around Allentown!

Celebrating the holidays with your family in and around Allentown doesn't have to cost a fortune. Check out our top 10 FREE Holiday Activities for 2015!

   
1. Allentown Lights
Check out the free holiday light displays in Allentown from November 28 through December 31. Locations include Hamilton Street, between 10th and 6th streets, the Arts Park, Cedar Beach Park and Andre Reed Park. Most displays are walk-able. 
   
2. Pip The Mouse
This free holiday puppet show has been an Allentown tradition since 1962! Shows at the Liberty Bell Museum run Monday through Saturday from Nov. 27 - Jan 2 at 12:30, 1:30 and 2:30pm. (Admission to the museum is $1 per child and $2 per adult. Well worth it!)
   
3. America on Wheels Holiday Train Display 
Enjoy the sounds and action of many model trains stationed around the museum's galleries! Runs Nov 28 - Jan 3. Fun for all ages, and free for children 12 and younger. Located at America on Wheels (5 North Front Street, Allentown)
  
4. Allentown Elf Parade - December 3 at 5:30pm
Dress like an elf and join the Elf Parade! This free event is happening during the annual Tree Lighting in Allentown. Free jingle bells handed out to participants, along with prizes for the best costumes.  Elves participating in the parade must be lined up in the Farr Lot (located on 8th Street between Linden and Hamilton) no later than 5:30pm.
   
5. Allentown Tree Lighting - December 3 from 4-7pm
This annual celebration (in Pocket Park, adjacent to Allentown's PPL Skyscraper) will include appearances by Santa and Mrs. Claus, characters from The Nutcracker and Pip the Mouse. Other activities include horse drawn carriage rides, ice carving demonstrations, kids crafts and live entertainment.
  
6. Pennsylvania Dutch Christmas on the Farm - December 5 from 10am-4pm
Free event featuring children's activities, petting zoo, vendors, wagon rides, and folklife demonstrations including brewing, log hewing, hearth cooking and much more. Plus, visit with the Belsnickel…if you've been good this year! Taking place at the Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center in Kutztown.
7. Emmaus Old Fashioned Christmas - December 5 from 11am - 8pm
All day, family friendly festivities include story time, children's crafts, horse & carriage rides and more! (Santa arrives at 4:45pm). Taking place in and around the Emmaus Triangle Park. 
8. Free Screening of A Christmas Carol at Emmaus Theatre - December 5 at 2pm
Your "admission fee" is one canned food item that will be donated to local families in need. Support a good cause, spend time with your family and see a great holiday movie.
9. Alburtis Holiday Festival - December 6
This all-day family festival offers plenty of free activities, including visits with Santa, a Capella singers from Emmaus HS, a Tree Lighting ceremony, free hot chocolate and popcorn and a FREE Open Tumble at East Penn Children's Fitness Center!

10. Macungie Holiday Celebration
 - December 12
This free event takes places around the Macungie Borough features activities for every member of the family. Enjoy kids crafts, photos with Santa, Mrs. Claus and “Jasper” the Bear, Horse and Surrey rides, gingerbread contest display, holiday train display and much more!

BONUS! Visit Santa for FREE at your Local Library! - Dates vary
Almost every community library hosts a free visit with Santa, and he usually brings treats and gifts! Bring your camera to take your own photo. Contact your local library for details.
