Kids Castle Allentown: A Macaroni Kid Review

By Mary Shoemaker February 11, 2016
Last weekend, my husband I took our two boys (ages 4 and 5) to check out Kids Castle on Airport Road in Allentown. We had never been there before, but we've heard that it's similar to that other game place for kids (you know, the one with the giant mouse mascot) but much less crowded and cheaper.

The Kids Castle is located in a shopping center on the side of the building behind Chicago Pizza (just look for the two giant toy soldiers!) and it has been in operation for 10 years. It has a variety of video games, a motorized Safari Ride for kids, a huge climbing gym and, of course, pizza and other kid-friendly foods. The prices are reasonable and packages that include a pizza, drinks and coins start at just $25.99. There's also a big room for Birthday Parties.

Our visit lasted about an hour, but we could have easily spent more time. The kids had a blast exploring everything they had to offer, while my husband and I really enjoyed that we had the place almost to ourselves with just two other families inside. The pizza was large, really yummy and plenty to feed our family of four.

Was there anything that could be improved? Well, it could use a fresh coat of paint, and some wear and tear on the facility is obvious. The video games weren't as great as we had hoped (I counted about 40 total, with 8 out of service) but they were enough to hold the attention of my boys for 30 minutes. But don't let those minor things scare you away. The facility was clean, which is what matters most. The climbing gym was a hit with my kids (they would have spent all afternoon there if we let them) as was the Safari Ride.  And the owners and staff are friendly and very helpful.

All in all, we walked away pleased with the experience. As for the boys? My youngest son said he preferred Kids Castle over the mouse-mascot competition, and my oldest said it was a tie. So it looks like we'll certainly be back!
