Looking for a new way to cool off with the kids on a hot summer day? Take them to a creek! Here are five of our favorites, all just a few minutes from Allentown.
Trexler Nature Preserve, Schnecksville
Follow the directions to the Lehigh Valley Zoo, but keep going past the parking lot and you'll drive (literally) right through Jordan Creek! Parking is available on either side of the crossing. There are plenty of areas for the kids to splash and play, as well as benches and picnic tables.
Macungie Memorial Park, Macungie
Jordan Creek Parkway, Whitehall

Pool Wildlife Sanctuary, Emmaus
Located along the banks of the Little Lehigh Creek, this preserve offers a unique boardwalk, which is perfect for little kids. You'll also find a covered pavilion with picnic tables.
Macungie Memorial Park, Macungie
In addition to a playground and numerous pavilions, this park also offers kids an opportunity to explore Swabia Creek. (Note: During events, the park is usually surrounded by fencing which can make access difficult. Check their calendar before heading over.)
Wehr's Dam, South Whitehall TownshipWehr’s Dam, located along Jordan Creek, is great for tubing and swimming. It also has a nice playground and plenty of picnic areas. It is a beautiful place to spend an afternoon!
Jordan Creek Parkway, Whitehall
Jordan Creek winds through this 269 acre suburban park, which also offers paths for nature walks along the creek. It also offers great fishing opportunities.
