10 Free & Local Holiday Activities

Celebrating the holidays with your family in and around Allentown doesn't have to cost a fortune. Check out our top 10 FREE Holiday Activities for 2016!

     
1. Pip The Mouse
This free holiday puppet show has been an Allentown tradition since 1962! Shows at the Liberty Bell Museum run Monday through Saturday at 12:30, 1:30 and 2:30pm. (Admission to the museum is $1 per child and $2 per adult. Well worth it!)
    
2. America on Wheels Holiday Train Display 
Enjoy the sounds and action of many model trains stationed around the museum's galleries! Runs Nov 25 - Dec 31. Fun for all ages, and free for children 12 and younger. Located at America on Wheels (5 North Front Street, Allentown)
   
3. Synthetic Ice Skating
At Percy Ruhe Park, located just down the street from Lights in the Parkway, the entire family can enjoy free ice skating on a synthetic rink! Open Wednesdays – Sundays from 5:30-9:30pm beginning November 25. Closed Christmas Day, and open every night December 26 – 30. Bring your own skates or rent.

4. Allentown Tree Lighting - December 1 from 4-7pm
This annual celebration (in Pocket Park, adjacent to Allentown's PPL Skyscraper) includes musical performances, dance acts, horse-drawn carriage rides, face painting, and of course, appearances by Santa and Mrs. Claus. 
 
5. Pennsylvania Dutch Christmas on the Farm - December 3 from 10am-4pm
Free event featuring children's activities, petting zoo, vendors, wagon rides, and folklife demonstrations including brewing, log hewing, hearth cooking and much more. Plus, visit with the Belsnickel…if you've been good this year! Taking place at the Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center in Kutztown.  
6. How the Grinch Stole Christmas at Emmaus Theatre
 - December 3 at 4pm
Your "admission fee" is one canned food item that will be donated to local families in need. Support a good cause, spend time with your family and see a great holiday movie.
   
7. South Whitehall Township Tree & Bridge Lighting - December 3 at 5pm
This night of family fun includes singing and dancing, arts & crafts, balloon animals, air brush tattoos, s’more stations and much more! Don't miss the special appearances by Elsa, Snoopy and Santa! Taking place at Covered Bridge Park in Allentown.

8. Emmaus Old Fashioned Christmas - December 3 from 11am - 8pm
All day, family friendly festivities include story time, children's crafts, horse & carriage rides and more!  Taking place in and around the Emmaus Triangle Park.    
9. Alburtis Holiday Festival - December 4
This all-day family festival offers plenty of free activities! It starts at 8:00 am in the morning with Breakfast with Santa and end with the Community Tree Lighting Ceremony & Contest Announcements at 5:30 pm. Events are all around town.
   
10. Macungie Holiday Celebration
 - December 10
This free event takes places around the Macungie Borough features activities for every member of the family. Enjoy kids crafts, photos with Santa, Mrs. Claus and “Jasper” the Bear, Horse and Surrey rides, gingerbread contest display, holiday train display and much more!

BONUS! Visit Santa for FREE at your Local Library! - Dates vary
Almost every community library hosts a free visit with Santa, and he usually brings treats and gifts! Bring your camera to take your own photo. Contact your local library for details.
