A Gift of Music for the Holidays! Continued
Oran Etkin, Wake Up, Clarinet! 14.99 (9.99 MP3) Other CDs: Kelenia
Jazz/World Music.
I absolutely loved this album from start to finish! Etkin is a children’s music teacher in NYC (it makes me want to move back) and in Wake Up, Clarinet! he brings his 'Timbalooloo' style of music education, which he developed, incorporating his belief that a basic understanding of music concepts is key for children understanding music overall. Etkin’s clarinet comes to life and teaches a little about simple music concepts like high, low, fast and slow. Kids also learn a little French and the story behind Eh La Bas. Perfect for: Quiet creative time
Uncle Rock, The Big Picture 12.00 Other CDs: Express Your Elf, Plays Well With Others,Uncle Rock U
Pop Rock.
This one time rocker turned stay-at-home dad/preschool teacher took his desire to teach kids music and created a new family enterprise. Uncle Rock, aka Robert Burke Warren, brings fun childhood tidbits to a mixture of education from conservation (There is no Away) and community building (Stop at a Mom & Pop). Perfect for: Hanging with friends
Sugar Free All Stars, Funky Fresh and Sugar Free 12.97 (9.90 iTunes) Other CDs: Dos Ninos, Funky Christmas
Funk/Pop Rock.
No big morals here, just a lot of kid fun! Sugar Free All Stars have some great interactive songs, SFA Disco Dance Party, The Train Beat Song and Tiger in My Backyard, along with get up off the coach fun of songs like Hey Now, Its Your Birthday and Rock Awesome. Chris Wiser and Rob Martin my call Oklahoma City home, but they’ve got deep roots in New Orleans which contributes to this bands unique and varied style. I love the energy and feel good mood of their music! Perfect for: Party Time, Oh Yeah!
Bari Koral, Rock and Roll Garden 9.99 (limited time) (9.99 iTunes) (8.00 party favor bag) Other CDs: Family Rock Band
Pop Rock.
Bari Koral’s songs are sweet, funny and interactive, great for the preschool and under crowd, but certainly enjoyable for all ages. Touted as the “Sheryl Crow of Kids Music” with Koral’s crisp and personable vocals, I couldn’t agree more. Boom Boom encourages kids to “stand up,” “Sit down,” then “jump up,” and “spin around” while Clap It! asks kids to follow along clapping left, right, high, low and all around. My personal favorite Best Friends is a musical throwback to the 80s with happy lyrics about what best friends can have fun doing together. Perfect for: Hanging with friends and Party Time, Oh Yeah!
Bill Harley, The Best Candy in the Whole World and Other Stories by Bill Harley
15.00 (8.00 MP3) Other CDs: I Wanna Play, One More Time, Down in the Backpack, Play it Again, There’s a Pea on My Plate, Big Big World, You’re in Trouble, 50 Ways to Fool Your Mother, Monster in the Bathroom, Who Made This Mess Storytelling, Folk.
Bill Harley has a wonderful storyteller voice. His stories and related songs are entertaining kid experiences with heavy doses of wit and wisdom. With over an hours worth of stories and music this album is
Perfect for: Car rides(Samples of all CDs were provided by their respective artists/Public Relations representatives, however no part of this article was written, suggested, or reviewed prior to publication.)
