August Events at the Lehigh Valley Zoo

Summertime is the perfect time to visit the Lehigh Valley Zoo! Here's a list of the special events happening this month.

	OWL AWARENESS DAY Saturday August 4, 2018 Did you know that August 4th is Owl Awareness Day? Join us here at the Lehigh Valley Zoo for an event that is sure to be a “HOOT”! We will have an exciting line up of hands-on interactive activities including owl pellet dissections and a “Know Your Owls” activity station! Be sure to stop by and say hello to our newest resident owl, Yeti, the Snowy Owl! This event will also feature specialty keeper talks, a tour INSIDE our kangaroo walkabout exhibit, and two scheduled giraffe feedings!
	ZOO BEACH BLAST! Sunday August 5, 2018 Catch a wave and surf your way over to the Lehigh Valley Zoo on Sunday, August 5^th to celebrate Zoo Beach Blast! This event will include a variety of beach and ocean themed activities that help convey the importance of keeping our beaches and oceans clean. DJ Ray will be spinning the tunes from 12PM-2PM! Make sure to stop by our Lorikeet Landing for a chance to feed our birds a cup of tropical flower nectar! Don’t miss an opportunity to participate in our oil spill simulation activity at our Penguin Bracelet Station!
	SLOTH MEET & GREET Thursday August 9, 2018 Join us here at the Lehigh Valley Zoo on Thursday, August 9th for an experience you won’t forget! From 12:30PM-1:30PM our resident sloth, Bean, will be on exhibit in the exercise yard for a guest meet and greet! This slow-mover is a crowd favorite so be sure to come say hello! Remember your cameras so you can snap a photo. Our knowledgeable conservation educators will be on-site as well to answer any questions you have about Bean! 	SMOKEY BEAR DAY Saturday August 11, 2018 Did you know that there are 8 primary species of bear worldwide? Join us at the Lehigh Valley Zoo on Saturday, August 11^th to celebrate the one bear dedicated to conserving forests and the animals that live there! We will be having an array of hands-on, interactive activities including a bear safari, bear themed crafts, and a teddy bear clinic! Check out our keeper talks for a chance to ask our friendly and knowledgeable keepers any conservation questions you may have!
	AFRICAN ANIMAL EXPEDITION Sunday August 12, 2018 Did you know the Lehigh Valley Zoo is home to over 10 species of animals that are native to Africa? Join us on Sunday, August 12^th to learn more about these animals’ native habitats, diets, and conservation status. We’ll have an assortment of crafts and activities geared toward some of these species! Don’t miss out on an educational keeper talk with our friendly and knowledgeable zookeepers! Make sure to get your tickets to feed our two Masai Giraffe. Feedings will be held daily from 11:30AM-12:30PM and again from 2:00PM-3:00PM!
	FOOD TRUCK FESTIVAL Saturday August 18, 2018 Join us at the Lehigh Valley Zoo on Saturday, August 18^th from 10AM-4PM for our 2^nd annual Food Truck Festival! Come try some delicious food while exploring the zoo and its adorable inhabitants. We will also be featuring a variety of hands on activities and experiences. Be sure to stop by our interactive exhibits for a chance to learn more about our fan favorites including our kangaroo, lorikeets, and goats! Music from 12PM-2PM provided by the talented DJ Ray!
	SWING INTO THE SCHOOL YEAR Sunday August 19, 2018 School is almost back in session so be sure to make your final days of summer count! On Sunday, August 19^th the Lehigh Valley Zoo will be hosting our Swing into the School Year event. This year we will have an exciting line up of crafts and activities including a book fair by Usborne Books & More, zoo themed story time, and a special appearance by book-loving Princess Belle from 11AM-1PM! Make sure to stop by our educational keeper talks to learn new animal facts that you can share with your classmates!
	IRON PIGS DAY Thursday August 23, 2018 We’re bringing the ball game to the wild! On Thursday, August 23rd, the Lehigh Valley Zoo will be hosting Iron Pigs Day! All guests that wear an article of Iron Pigs gear will receive $1.00 hotdogs! Be sure to get through the gates early for a chance to snap a photo with the Iron Pigs Mascots from 10:30AM-11:30AM!
	WEEKEND GIVEAWAY DAY Saturday August 25, 2018 Join us at the Lehigh Valley Zoo on Saturday, August 25th for a day full of crafts, games, prizes, and fun! Stop in at the craft and activity tables as you explore around the zoo for a chance to get your hands on some exclusive giveaways! Be sure to tour our interactive exhibits, participate in our keeper talks, and snap a selfie at our photo cutouts! Don’t forget to purchase your tickets for our giraffe feeding held daily from 11:30AM-12:30PM and again from 2:00PM-3:00PM!
	RUN WILD! Sunday August 26, 2018 Enjoy one of the most picturesque running trails in all of Pennsylvania! Your 5K or 10K trek will take you through the Trexler Game Preserve, a serene animal sanctuary that totals more than 1200 acres. Your fun race will end inside the Lehigh Valley Zoo as you run past our zebras, oryx, camels, ostrich, and kangaroos, and end at our St Luke’s Giraffe Barn where Murphy and Tatu will be cheering you on!
