Snow Tubing at Bear Creek: A Macaroni Kid Review

By Mary Shoemaker February 12, 2020

No winter is complete without playing in the snow, right? And we found the best way to do it-- snow tubing at Bear Creek! This past weekend we visited the resort as a family to take on tubing for the first time. We spent two hours racing each other down the mountain, laughing the entire time. Both of my boys are already asking to go back!

Want to plan a trip for your family? Here are five things to keep in mind:

  1. You ride up to the top of the snow tubing run on a magic carpet, which is essentially a moving sidewalk. No huffing and puffing up the mountain required.
  2. The tubes are single rider only, and you are only permitted to ride sitting in the tube. Since some other local areas do have double rider tubes, you might want to prep your kids in advance on what to expect.
  3. Kiddos need to be at least 6 years old and 42” tall to participate.
  4. No snow at your house? No problem! Bear Creek makes their own snow over the entire mountain, including in the snow tubing park.
  5. Tubing tends to get faster as the sun goes down and the snow firms up. Keep this in when planning your trip.

Remember, Bear Creek offers much more than just snow tubing, so don't plan to leave as soon as you're done! There are three dining options, a relaxing spa, a beautiful hotel, and of course, skiing! (You can check out our skiing review here.) And remember, 4th and 5th graders ski and ride for free in Pennsylvania thanks to SkiPA!
