What to do in the Lehigh Valley on a Rainy Day

A rainy day doesn't have to mean you can't have fun!

June 3, 2021

1. Let Your Kids Make a Mess (That you don't have to clean up!) at Slime Time

The Lehigh Valley Mall has the coolest new attraction in Allentown, Slime Time! This storefront opened over the summer, and it is the PERFECT place to let your kids go crazy for an hour or two on a rainy day. Your kids can make slime and play in one of two large sensory bins. The bins have fun ingredients that change monthly (slime, water beads, etc.) and are all made with a base of hand sanitizer! You can let your kids go crazy and know that they are being safe about germs.

When you're done, head downstairs and let your kids burn off some energy in the mall's indoor play center, or head directly across from Slime Time to The Disney Store.

2. Visit the Local Pet Store

Now this one can come back to bite you. The last time we did this we ended up with a beta fish and an elaborately expensive kingdom complete with a coconut castle. IF you have more will power than me, this can be a great way to get your kids out of the house for a half hour to see animals. In order to avoid my costly mistake, have a conversation ahead of time and explain that you are going to visit the animals, but not bring any home.

3. Visit Urban Air Adventure Park (https://www.urbanairtrampolinepark.com)

We just visited Urban Air Adventure Park for the first time this past Saturday, and all I can say is WOW! We've been to a few other trampoline parks in the area, and this place blows everywhere else out of the water. There are trampolines, rock climbing, obstacle courses, go karts, and more. You could easily spend an entire day watching your kids run from one activity to the other. This is the perfect place to let your kids burn off some energy, while you relax in one of the many massage chairs. (Trexlertown, PA)

4. Create Some Art at Paint Some Pottery (https://www.paintsomepottery.com)

Encourage your kids' creative side by allowing them to pick out a ceramic piece to paint at Paint Some Pottery. Not only will you and your kids have a fun time, but you will have a useful memento to enjoy for years to come. (Allentown, PA)

5. Head to the Food Store and Buy Some Ingredients to Cook Together

My kids love to help me bake! We recently went strawberry picking for the first time of the season, and as soon as we came home my kids couldn't wait to turn our bounty into yummy treats. Even my three year old loves to help me cook! On a rainy day, take the time to cook a nutritious meal with your little ones. Bonus: Dinner will be done for the night!

6. Head to the Movies at Movie Tavern! (https://www.marcustheatres.com/theatre-locations/movie-tavern-trexlertown)

We STILL haven't been to the Movie Tavern, but now that the world is starting to open up again, it's on my to-do list this summer! Check out the website for specials like $5.00 Tuesdays, private rentals, and special screenings for those with special needs.

7. Head to a Local Book Store (https://www.letsplaybooks.com)

Books are the one thing I just can't say no to. As an avid reader myself, I love to see my children get excited over reading. A rainy day is a perfect day to head to a local bookstore and load up on new titles for your home library. When you get home, let the kids build forts all over the living room and read the rest of the day away.
