Macaroni Kid's September Bucket List

Fall is in the air and there is so much to do in the Lehigh Valley this month!

September 9, 2021

Labor Day has come and gone and the kids are back in school. September is a wonderful mix of warm days before the weather starts to get cooler, and it is the perfect time to get your family outside and enjoy some time together! Here are a few things that you can check out this month in Allentown and the surrounding area!

1. Take in a local College Football Game (https://lehighsports.com/sports/football/schedule/2021), (https://goleopards.com/sports/football/schedule/2021), (https://muhlenbergsports.com/sports/football/schedule/2021), (https://www.moraviansports.com/sports/fball/2021-22/schedule), (https://kubears.com/sports/football/schedule/2021)

My family recently headed out for our first Lehigh football game of the season! (Fun fact: my husband and I are Lehigh Alumni and met in class!) We are luckily in The Lehigh Valley to be surrounded by many colleges with football programs: Lehigh, Lafayette, Moravian, Muhlenberg, and Kutztown! Tickets are usually inexpensive and the kids can be fed and entertained by the food stands, marching band, and excellent people watching! (Dates Vary. Follow the links above for each team's schedule)

2. Go Apple Picking (https://grimsorchard.com), (https://hamiltonfamilyorchards.com), (https://rodaleinstitute.org/events/apple-picking/)

September is prime time for apple picking. There are many orchards in The Lehigh Valley and many also offer apple treats made right on property! Load up on apples and head home to make your very own apple sauce! Follow this link for directions on how: https://kutztown-to-allentown.macaronikid.com/articles/6139f6ab2dc1eb2f8ebb08bd/homemade-applesauce-is-a-yummy-fall-treat

3. Bundle Up for a Fall Movie Night (https://www.allentownpa.gov/Home/News-Details/ID/1605/2021-Movies-in-the-Park-Schedule), (https://www.facebook.com/events/6019660351381218/)

If you didn't catch any of the FREE outdoor movies throughout the Allentown area this summer, don't worry! There are still options this month. Grab the kids, some blankets, a few lawn chairs, and of course snacks, then head out to one of the locations listed above (follow the links) for a night of family fun! (September 10th)

4. Check out Celtic Fest (https://www.celticfest.org)

This has to be my favorite local festival all year! Celtic Fest takes place in downtown Bethlehem, in the same area as Musikfest. Head out for a few hours to listen to Celtic music, eat yummy food, and cheer on the Highland games! There are often fun activities for kids (many free!) We usually head down to Celtic Fest at least twice over the course of the weekend to see different games and performers. The kids love it! (September 24-26)
