Outer Space Adventures

Blast off into creativity! Explore galaxies, planets, rockets, and imaginative aliens while experimenting with painting, collage, and drawing. Learn about color, texture, and design while creating out-of-this-world masterpieces.

Grab your creative passport! Create projects inspired by countries and cultures across the Americas, Africa, Europe, and Asia using paint, pastels, clay, and ink. Find your voice in our collective art world.

Big imagination meets small-scale creations! Dive into the world of miniatures — designing miniature sculptures, itty-bitty paintings, mini mixed-media scenes, and even teeny-tiny dioramas.

Design, engineer, and construct your own assemblage sculptures using recycled materials and discarded objects — broken toys, plastic, cardboard, natural items like seed pods, or anything that can become Art!

Torch It. Forge It. Wear It!
with Rhonda Tomel

Dive into the world of metalsmithing and jewelry design! Learn how to use torches, saws, and hammers to cut, shape, texture, and assemble one-of-a-kind metalwork. Everyone leaves with bold, handcrafted wearables and the skills to keep creating. Beginners are welcome — no experience necessary!

The Great Art Experiment
with Jesse Todero

A hands-on art adventure filled with paint, clay, collage, printmaking, and more. Mix, layer, squish, and experiment to see what each material can do. It's all about trying new things, getting a little messy, and having a whole lot of fun!

Trust the Process

Putting "perfect" aside to focus on the fun of creating in the moment. Experiment with marbling with shaving cream, printing with found objects, and more. Build confidence to take creative risks and discover that the coolest art happens when you just let go!

Experiment with paint, collage, sculpture, and unexpected textures to create bold, one-of-a-kind artworks. A high-energy art adventure all about mixing, layering, and letting imagination run wild!

Eco-Craft Clay

Using hand-building techniques with an eco-forward perspective to create useful and sculptural clay pieces inspired by the natural world. Construct functional vessels and decorative garden habitats for indoor and outdoor use.

Step into a world of imagination! Design enchanted castles, magical creatures, and illustrations while exploring drawing, painting, and mixed media techniques. Build storytelling skills and bring your own fantasy worlds to life.

The Art of the Great Outdoors

An art studio inspired by the outside world! Explore KU's local gardens, incorporate found natural materials, and try printmaking, mosaics, cardboard construction, and self-portraits made with materials you gather from nature.

Manga Character Design
with Michael Staniz

Get inspired by Manga style animation — draft, sketch, and finalize your own character designs. Learn the fundamentals of color theory, shape language, and iterative design. Draw by hand and use digital skills to bring your characters to life!

Wearable Threads
with Kathleen Walck

Explore fiber arts from around the world — felting, stitching, dyeing, printing, and more. Learn how cultures across history have used fiber arts to adorn and celebrate the human form, and create your own wearable embellishments.

Throwing on the Potter's Wheel
with Jeff Dietrich

"Throwing" comes from an old English word for twisting or turning — not actually flinging clay! Learn and practice techniques for shaping clay on a spinning potter's wheel to create symmetrical vessels like bowls, mugs, and vases.

We work with expensive materials, specialized equipment, and sometimes dangerous tools. We have a zero tolerance policy on disruptive and destructive behavior.

We will not tolerate:
• Behavior that disrupts the classroom
• Abuse of equipment or materials
• Aggressive behavior toward others
📵 Phone-Free Classrooms — phones go in a basket and may only be checked at break times.
