Pintsize Projects

top image

Pintsize Projects, one of Macaronikid's newest sponsors, sent us a the pillow project kit for Hunter to check out.  To begin with, the packaging is simply sweet.  The kit arrived in it's own little red tin that Hunter immediately had plans for keeping a collection of adventure items in, after the project was complete.  Everything needed to make the pillow was inside the tin from the fabric and stuffing to a small bottle of glue and a needle and thread.  The directions for how to make the pillow were intentionally left minimal.  All we had to supply were scissors and our imagination.  Hunter enjoyed using one of the bird patterns supplied to create her own design on the pillow using ribbon, yarn, fabric and buttons (all supplied) that she carefully glued into place with a little help from mom.   We let the glue set over night and then sewed the sides together the next day and filled the pillow.  Hunter wanted a little more puff to her pillow, so we added more polyfil that we happened to have already on-hand.  The pillow, as you can see from the photo above, turned out great.

Beth Krumholz, from Pintsize Projects, produces her tin projects to bring kids and parents together to collaborate in creating "old fashioned" arts and crafts that develop skills to last a lifetime.  Each kit is unique in the exact supplies provided.

Ms. Krumholz will also come to your home for a Pintsize Projects party, where friends and families can come together for a fun arts and crafts time.  Hunter agreed that Pintsize Projects would make "a really fun party", whether for a birthday or a scout troop or just a bunch of friends getting together.

To order your own Pintsize Projects tin or to find out more about hosting a Pintsize Projects party go to http://www.pintsizeprojects.com/home.htm

Girl Scout Juniors from Troop 153: The Farm Show

by Samantha and Courtney

top image

(Photo courtesy of the PA Department of Agriculture.)

The Pennsylvania Farm Show was all about learning agriculture, farming, and a way of life.  It was exciting to see all the animals.  I enjoyed eating things made at the farms like maple syrup.  There was even cotton candy made from maple syrup!

This year at the farm show, I enjoyed being a farm detective.  I walked around the different agricultural exhibits and collected stamps.  I learned about bees, rabbits, poultry, veterinary medicine, horses and a lot more.  It was not only fun, but we learned a lot of useful information.

-Samantha

There was so much to do at the Pennsylvania Farm Show!  We looked at animals, ate very good food, looked at butter sculptures and displays of tractors, and so much more.  There were so many people there from all over and they displayed many different things.  There was one stand that made wooden boats, cars, and airplanes.  It was amazing how much you could see and do at the Farm Show.

Winter Sun Catcher

Add a little color to this dull grey winter.

top image

Make color ice cubes by adding 1-2 drops of food coloring to the water in each section of a ice cube tray. The colors will run together in the pan later so use complimentary colors. Freeze the ice cubes completely.

Fill a round cake pan about 2/3 full with water. To make a hole for a ribbon, set a small plastic cup full of water in the pan. Place the pan in the freezer.  After an hour, put the colored ice cubes in the pan and let all the liquid freeze completely.

Remove the plastic cup, flip the frozen sun catcher out of the pan and hang from a tree branch with a ribbon.
