Macaroni Kid Allentown's End of Summer Bucket List

Make the Last Two Weeks of Summer the Best Yet!

August 19, 2021

Is it just me or was this the fastest summer ever? It feels like just yesterday we were wrapping up the school year, and now it's time to load up on pencils and notebooks again! Summer might be winding down, but's that doesn't meant that you can't make these last two weeks the best yet!

1. See a FREE Outdoor Movie (https://allentownpa.myrec.com/info/activities/program_details.aspx?ProgramID=29863) (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/borough-of-emmaus-summer-movie-in-the-park-onward-tickets-114606860204?utm_source=eventbrite&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=post_old_publish&utm_content=fullLinkOldEmail#)

Is there anything that screams SUMMER more than sitting outside at night and taking in an outdoor movie? Grab a blanket, some lawn chairs, and the kids and head out for one of the last movies of the summer! Many locations have food trucks or other snacks for purchase.

2. Attend a FREE Outdoor Concert (https://www.kutztownboro.org/concert-series/) (http://emmausarts.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Emmaus-Summer-schedule.pdf) (https://www.bcmountainresort.com/play/events/?c=1&m=20210601)

I have to admit, with the exception of Musikfest, I didn't make it to one outdoor concert this summer. Luckily, it's not too late! There are several locations in the Allentown area that are still hosting FREE concerts during the end of summer and into the early fall. There's nothing more fun than watching your little ones dance around while relaxing with your family.

3. Take a One Day Road Trip (https://kutztown-to-allentown.macaronikid.com/articles/60db010d78a4a41a1a86504d/one-day-road-trips:-clinton-nj) (https://kutztown-to-allentown.macaronikid.com/articles/6092fb41ca4e50390ae4ce6b/one-day-road-trips:-hershey-pa) (https://kutztown-to-allentown.macaronikid.com/articles/6088137e59c8984d09c2c669/one-day-road-trips:-peddlers-village-and-fonthill-castle)

Vacations are always my family's favorite part of summer. There's something about exploring a new area that brings us all closer together. You may not have time to plan an overnight trip before school starts, but you can still head out for the day! There are many fun locations within a couple of hours of The Lehigh Valley that are great for a day trip. Click on the links above for a few that my family has visited lately.

4. Spend Time Outdoors (https://www.allentownpa.gov/Department-of-Parks-and-Recreation/Parks-Bureau/Park-Inventory/Trexler-Memorial-Park) (https://www.allentownpa.gov/Department-of-Parks-and-Recreation/Parks-Bureau/Park-Inventory/Lehigh-Parkway) (https://www.kutztownboro.org/departments/parks/trail/)

The Lehigh Valley is the perfect place for any outdoor enthusiast! There are hiking trails, bike trails, and endless parks and playgrounds. You can enjoy the beautiful weather regardless of your activity level. Check out Macaroni Kid's list of playgrounds (https://kutztown-to-allentown.macaronikid.com/directory/category/5c848e06c9e66f24f3da5be8/parks-and-playgrounds), take a hike/ bike ride, or pack a picnic and head out for a relaxing lunch outdoors!

5. Cheer on a Local Team (https://www.milb.com/lehigh-valley/schedule/2021-08)

The Iron Pigs are home for most of the last two weeks of summer! My kids love cheering on their favorite team, eating way too much ice cream, and exploring Coca Cola Park. Check out the schedule to see some of the many fun promotions that The Iron Pigs have planned.

6. Take Your Kids Swimming (https://www.allentownpa.gov/Home/News-Details/ID/942/Cedar-Beach-Pool-Opens-Saturday)  (https://www.allentownpa.gov/Home/News-Details/ID/706/Mack-Pool-Opens-Saturday) (http://www.lowermac.com/recreation/pool/) (https://www.kutztownboro.org/departments/parks/pool/)

So you didn't join a pool this summer? No problem! There are many pools in The Lehigh Valley that offer one day passes. For one low price you can let the kids burn off some energy swimming and playing games. Grab lunch of a snack from the snack bar and make it an extra special day. Bonus: your kids will sleep like champs!

7. Spend Time Wandering Around One of the Many Local Farmer's Markets (https://kutztown-to-allentown.macaronikid.com/articles/607356bea369a5622d0957d0/five-great-farmers-markets-in-the-lehigh-valley)

I write about Farmer's Markets often on this page, because they are my absolute favorite! My family heads to the Emmaus Farmer's Market almost every Sunday morning to load up on fresh local goodies and listen to music. It's one of my kids' favorite things to do! If you have checked out a farmer's market this summer, click on the link above for a list of some great local places!
