My Papa Pal Journey

How I rediscovered my love of helping others while earning extra income for my family

By Rebecca Seidenberger, publisher of Macaroni KID Allentown January 19, 2023

Some of you may have been following along on my Papa journey over the past few months. I wrote about becoming a Papa Pal HERE and HERE . For those of you who are new, I found an amazing part time job for busy parents this past spring, and I have been writing about how life changing it has been in monthly articles for Macaroni KID.

The author applied for and obtained a job with Papa to facilitate the writing of this review. The author received compensation for this article. All thoughts and opinions expressed are their own.

Heading off to a Papa visit

We could all use a little extra income right about now. It seems like just about every company is hiring at the moment, but it can be difficult to squeeze an extra job into an already busy parent's schedule. Between school, playing taxi, sports, extracurriculars, and chores, who has the time? That is the mindset I was in when I stumbled upon this amazing opportunity with Papa

I already wrote about the application process and what a visit looks like above, so today I want to write about what it's like having a job that gives back, and what would make YOU a great Papa Pal.

I have always been the kind of person who likes to work with and help others. It was what lead me to become a teacher before becoming a stay-at-home-mom. I've been home with my children for over five years, and I love every minute of it, but I also missed that feeling of helping others. Papa has filled that gap for me! I love helping local seniors with non-medical tasks. It makes me feel like I'm making a difference, and I am making money for my family!

I leave every session with a huge smile on my face. Not only do I get to help with errands and chores, but I get to make connections with local seniors who I otherwise would not have met. I have spent a good portion of each visit just talking and listening. It's always fun to hear someone's story... and my new Papa members have had some great ones!

You might be asking yourself, "What qualities does it take to be a good Papa Pal? Would I be a good Papa Pal?" The short answer is... YES! Parents make the best Papa Pals because you're already doing it every day! Local seniors need the same support, patience, and compassion as we give our own children. They need help with day-to-day tasks, just like our own children do. And most of all, they need someone to treat them with dignity... just like our own children do. You can use your skills as a parent to become the best Papa Pal ever.

Are you compassionate, caring, and patient? Do you want to make a little extra money for your family while also giving back to the community? Give Papa a try! This is an amazing opportunity to take on a flexible, part-time job and feel good about giving back to the community.
